Oleg was born on 06.08.2008. A social worker directed the child to a hospice starting from 29.08.2008 and since
29.06.2009 he has been at a replacement home.
The young man is quite good-humored and clubbable. He is not shy.
His development has been rather slow comparing to other children his age. Despite his slow development concerning
motorical skills, his development so far is appropriate for his age when evaluating the development of the child based on
the Level system. In social development, cognitive development and self-serving skills he is on the level of a child at the
age of 1 year.
Has no speech. He understands his name if someone calls him. He understands some of the simpler orders. Has little
passive speech. He expresses his positive and negative emotions with the same yelling.
He sleeps once during daytime. Sometimes also twice during the daytime if he is very fretful and sniveling. He tends to
suck his thumb while sleeping and he does not want a pacifier. His thumb goes to his mouth also when he gets tired or if
he does not find anything to do. He usually sleeps calmly during the night.
He eats everything and has not developed a favorite meal. He eats independently. When he eats, the table and floor are
covered with food and also Oleg himself.
Playing. He builds towers from blocks, places things inside one another – for example puts balls in a bucket etc. He is
composed while doing that and does not rush. If something goes wrong then he tries to make it right. Oleg likes to carry
all sorts of things from one place to another - clothing items, doll blankets, small carpets, tea-cloths and other items he
can get his hands on. He is not able to be concentrate for a long period of time and that is normal for his age. He prefers
to play alone. He likes to do things that he has seen teachers do – fluffing carpets, taking tea-clothes from the table etc.
We use diapers. He does not go to toilet yet and does not give notice about the need to change diapers. He likes to be in a
bath a lot and plash with warm water. He also likes to sit in low water in the pool during the summer. He does not like it
when his head is being washed under a shower. As most of small children, he is okay with water being poured on his
head with a jug. He does grumble a bit but is passes quickly.
Generally Oleg is a sweet boy who yearns for fondness and closeness.
The child was born prematurely (on the 36-37th week of pregnancy). The labor was quick and with amniotomy, thick
amniotic fluids. Weight at birth 1940g, height at birth 42cm and head girth 31cm. The child was diagnosed with
prenatal infection and fetal dysmormfic alcohol syndrome.
The child has been diagnosed with a non-allergic asthma, paralysis of the central nervous system of children (PCI). He
needs constant treatment – Flixodid 2 dosages twice a day, Ventolin if needed. The eye-doctor diagnosed him with an
inward-turned varying divergent strabismus and hypoplasia of the seeing nerve. He was directed to a consultation for a
possible operative treatment.
The psychologist has evaluated that the child is approximately a half year behind in development, even more when it
comes to speech. Diagnosed with lagged development.
The speech therapist has evaluated the child’s speech to be on the level of a child at the age on 12 months based on the
Reynell test. Additional exams have peen planned at the hearing-centre concerning the possibility of the downtrend of
hearing.
He is ill a lot during the winter period. Oleg has a coarse skin that needs special care. Essex cream has been used and also
bath-oil is applied on skin after bath.
